| Haysville, Kansas Randy, 48, has been out of the military since 1979 and has worked at Boeing for the past 24 years as an engineering technician in a metrology laboratory. Randy is doing the same job for Boeing that he was trained to do in the military, and as a result of the Bush administration's overtime legislation, he will no longer be eligible for overtime pay. My Story I've been out of the military for 25 years, but the time that I spent serving my country is now going to have a negative impact on my earning potential when Bush's overtime law goes into affect this March. I was trained by the military to do the same job that I'm now doing as a civilian, and that means that my overtime pay is now in jeopardy. People talk about the "Marriage Penalty"-this is the "Military Penalty". It makes no sense to punish the men and women who serve this country honorably by taking away their ability to get paid overtime. How do you tell the people who are laying down their lives in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, "Thank you very much for your service, and now that you're home, no overtime pay for you"? This just is not fair. I was able to use my overtime pay to help put my son through college. He's now a successful accountant. I was hoping to do the same for my eight-year-old when the time comes for her to go to school. This is just another example of how Bush's economic policies are maximizing profits for big business at the expense of the American people. |
